EYES

#1
"The most common eye injury is the result of the guinea pig getting poked in the eye by a piece of hay. If you notice a guinea pig with a watering eye check the surface of the eye for any scratches."

#2
"Normal eyes are clear and bright. They protrude slightly and are of the same size. Guinea pigs normally keep their eyes open all the time, even when sleeping."

Post  Admin on Fri Mar 27, 2009 9:21 am

"Rabbit ear mites (Psoroptes cuniculi) may affect guinea pigs. The guinea pig may be seen scratching and shaking its head and the wax in the ears may appear dirty and reddish brown (sometimes just described as "dark"). "

ELONGATED ROOTS

Post  Admin on Fri Mar 27, 2009 9:22 am

"Guinea pigs' teeth are "open rooted" and grow continuously. Sometimes the root grows or is pushed into the jaw, resulting in elongated roots. An examination of the mouth may give no clue that this condition exists."

EUTHANASIA

Post  Admin on Fri Mar 27, 2009 9:27 am

"We hope to minimize pain and ease the passing of our beloved old or terminally ill pets as the end of their life approaches. Although one may not truly know how close is death, one looks at quality of life to help make this decision."
